North American Production of Sailormoon

The North American version of the anime, is imported by DiC Entertainment and distributed by Seagull Entertainment Distribution, and the toys are produced by Bandai USA, and Irwin toys. The series is a dub of a Japanese Anime whose name, "Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon" is translated as "Beautiful Girl Warrior Sailormoon".

In North America, as of November 1998, DiC has translated a total of 82 Episodes of Sailormoon into English. This was not done all at once, however. They did the first 65 Episodes, airing them in Canada first, then in the US just days later. This occurred from the 28th of August, through the 20th of November in 1995. We here at Sailormoon World, do not know when the last 17 Aired in Canada. We just know they did, before they aired here in the US. If anyone has the Canadian Airdates for these last seventeen episodes, kindly E-mail them to us and we will add them to the database. The first 65 bounced around American syndication for a while, until the cable channel Cartoon Network, (A Time-Warner Company), landed the rights to show the last 17 here in the US. They did indeed show them from the 30th of November through the 22nd of December in 1998. Cartoon Network then immediately began to show the first English episodes again from the beginning.

There are some differences between the original Japanese version and the version shown in North America. DiC made some changes, even skipped some episodes entirely, to bring the show more in conformance with what they perceived as the standard of acceptability for shows that will be viewed by large numbers of younger viewers in the American Television Marketplace.
